Creating mood

Mood with design of space

Low rooms are usually more cosy and intimate; therefore, the ceiling is traditionally lower in kitchens, bathrooms and toilets than in living rooms, for instance.

The human psyche attributes connotations to colours. Yellow creates warmth, matt blue on the ceiling creates a sense of space and continuity. Shiny surfaces, on the other, restrict and insulate.

The home can also be a series of spaces, with interlinking parts between these spaces. All of these spaces do not need to be similar - there can be interlinking parts between them. It is also possible to play with the qualities of various spaces. Wall to wall carpeting represents an abhorrence especially for many Scandinavians suffering from allergies. Simultaneously, however, it can challenge people to make more adventurous choices - and try surprising materials.
