The timber is yellowish brown in colour. Sapwood is lighter in colour than heartwood. The timber is coarse textured and grains are clearly visible on the sawn or planed timber. Broad rays produce a silvery grain figure on planed surfaces.
Dozens of oak species are available worldwide, but few of them are utilised on an industrial scale. European oak (Quercus Robur) is used for Upofloor hardwood flooring. Species distribution is Central and Eastern Europe, where it grows to a height of 18-30 m with a trunk diameter of 1.2 - 1.8 m. Oak frequently forms large diameter branches.
The density is 650 kg/m³ and hardness is average to high: Brinell-hardness 2.9 - 3.7.
